Dearest Artists, Attendees, Fans, Guests, Sponsors, and Vendors:
Thanks for supporting Florida Comics Experience. Since 2012, we’ve worked diligently to build a niche event that’s more than “another comic con”. We wanted to create a small town celebration that meshed comics into the local arts culture of Melbourne, Florida and the Space Coast.
Unfortunately, the best laid plans don’t always go – well – as planned.
At the end of last year, we began to work with the Eau Gallie Arts District (EGAD) to infuse some “culture” into our pop culture event. The civic center we rented is in the district (next to an Art Museum) and walking distance to a number of small shops and galleries. The blending made perfect sense to all of us… or so we thought. Complications (a norm in event development) became full obstacles at the beginning of June. Over the past two weeks, we’ve hit a roadblock in terms to cooperating with the management of the Arts District to the point that it has negatively impacted our event.
FCE was founded on the idea of supporting the local community, and the actions of EGAD’s management has left us feeling that our support was misdirected. As such, we’re going to move that focus more heavily onto our supporters from the other end of town: the Famous Faces & Funnies comic book store.
Here’s the current plan:
THE CONVENTION IS NOW A “GRAND OPENING” CELEBRATION
We are still hosting our key events: costume contest, gaming, etc. Instead of the Civic Center, though, we will be moving this to the new Famous Faces & Funnies store location. They suffered a mishap back in May (http://www.mynews13.com/content/news/cfnews13/news/article.html/content/news/articles/cfn/2015/5/27/car_into_comic_book_.html?cid=rss) and just finished moving their store into a new location in the same plaza. The new address is:
THE EVENT WILL BE FREE (THIS YEAR)
Since we are shifting the event out of EGAD, we are going to scale down the production. As such, we are going to refund all pre-sales. Along with the refund, we will be including a discount code to come to our Jacksonville event, WasabiCon: Year 4, as a thank you for supporting the local event.
GUESTS ARE CANCELLED (POSSIBLY TRANSFERRED)
Due to the shift in venue/format, we have to cancel our guest appearances. All of them, though, have been extended the offer to appear at our Jacksonville event (WasabiCon) in a couple of months. We’ll keep you all posted.
SINCE WE’RE NOW IN A “STORE” – THERE IS NO “VENDORS ROOM”
This was a tough call to make, but we just don’t have the space to welcome all the vendors. All vendors have been offered a refund (and/or the opportunity to vend at WasabiCon).
Please know that we did not make this decision lightly, but – in the long run – we feel it is the best move for our brand and for our mission of supporting the local community.

Thanks again – and see you all August 8th!
